Myriad of Moths
Moths and man. Two different creatures that share the same fatal behavior, weakness to an attraction.
Like moths to a flame, like a human to whatever their motivation is.
Deep down, I am positive all of us already know that we should have never long too much for anything. Anything too much is never good.
But does it change anything? Does the fact that logically we know we might hurt ourselves in the process would make us stop chasing whatever we were chasing?
I don't think that's how the human brain works. And that is why we resemble the moths so terribly.
Moths are attracted to light, artificial ones. And that is because they make the mistake of thinking that the artificial lights were their moon or star or whatever it is the natural source of light that would help orientate them.
Humans are attracted to an abundance of things, other human beings, prestige, dignity, and money. Our attraction to all of that leads us to feel greed and lust.
The thrill of the chase makes us keep trying to achieve whatever we thought we want to achieve. Not realizing that what we were attempting to achieve was no more than just artificial light.
Most of the time, everything is always better with an example. So let me give you one.
Let's say you met this guy. Sparks fly. There's an instant connection. And to top it all of, he resembles the moon. The guiding light that helps you orientate. So at that exact moment, you made a choice. A choice that seems perfect because you did not realize you were already putting on your rose-colored glasses.
You concluded that this guy is your moon.
Only after time has passed that you would question it. The moon is not supposed to make you feel like this. The attraction was not supposed to be self-destructive because it was supposed to be mutual.
Let me tell you, the artificial lights throw off moths' internal navigation system, tricking the moths into thinking that the lights were the moon.
And that is what your brain did to you. You tricked yourself into thinking that you have found your moon, that you were flying in a moonlit night, not in fluorescent light. So you keep feebly crushing yourself head first, not realizing he was not the moon. Or not your moon, at least.
But that is okay. I believe that in life, we would always encounter artificial light and get charmed by it. Two lights, three lights, maybe someone would be so lucky that they only met one. Just try to remember, when you start to ask yourself if the gleam of the moon was supposed to feel like this, then it is a sign to stop.
After all, moths are probably disoriented rather than attracted to the artificial lights.
Thank you to everyone who read this. And think of this post the next time you see moths surrounding the light, okay?
